Mother's Day used to feel like something I celebrated from a distance.

Not because my mum wasn't there - she always was. But we were never the "let's sit and chat" kind. I was constantly building, chasing, and moving. She was quietly holding everything else together.

It wasn't until my divorce that she started asking, "So... what exactly do you do?"

Maybe it took breaking down to finally open up. Maybe it took slowing down to really notice her presence.

And now? I treasure every moment I have left to spend with her, because time, once lost, doesn't regenerate.

Strangely, it was Duchess who kept her company while I wasn't around. Now that she's gone, I feel the silence - and the importance of filling it with love, not just ambition.
