Where will you work today?
Would you like to work from anywhere?
When I was a kid, I had a simple dream - stay home, do as little as possible, and spend my days watching TV. The idea of getting dressed every morning to head to an office felt absurd to me. Little did I know this childhood fantasy of avoiding the daily grind would one day shape the work culture I'd build for my businesses.
Fast forward to adulthood, and life didn't exactly turn out the way childhood me envisioned - but in many ways, it's even better. As a blogger, columnist, and eventually an entrepreneur, I was fortunate to have the freedom to work on my own terms. I skipped the morning rush, avoided cubicles, and chose where and when I worked.
But over time, my dream grew bigger. It wasn't just about staying home anymore - it was about working from anywhere. I wanted to explore the world, connect with people across cultures, and build a team that wasn't limited by borders. This idea of working from anywhere became a key value at People's Inc. 360, where we've been building a remote-first culture long before it became the norm.

For us, remote work wasn't just about convenience - it was about possibility. Tapping into global talent and embracing diverse perspectives became our superpower. But let me be honest - managing a global team is no walk in the park. Hiring employees across borders meant navigating compliance laws, figuring out international payroll, and managing IT logistics - all while keeping the team connected and inspired.
For instance, we have employees technically registered in the United States who work from parts of Asia. I find it ironic because while I dream about spending more time in the United States, some of my United States-based employees prefer to live in Asia. This level of fluidity - the ability to live and work wherever you want - is something I treasure deeply.

One unique aspect of our culture is what I call our internal gig economy. I realised early on that operational staff often don't have the same opportunities to earn more as, say, sales teams. Salespeople can sell more to boost their commissions, but ops are often stuck. So, we created a system where employees can pick up internal side projects, allowing them to earn more without needing to find external gigs. It's not perfect, but it gives everyone more flexibility and opportunity to grow.
Of course, building this culture wasn't without its challenges. Without the day-to-day office interactions, we've had to work harder to maintain a sense of community. Digital town halls, regular check-ins, and virtual celebrations have become part of our DNA, helping us bridge the distance and create a sense of belonging.

For me, #workfromanywhere is more than a business decision - it's a personal philosophy. It means I get to explore the world, meet people I've only known online, and immerse myself in new cultures. It's about freedom - not just to work, but to live the way you choose.
I shared more about this journey in my YouTube interview with JJ, where I dive into how we built this culture, the challenges we overcame, and the lessons learned from managing a truly global team. You can watch the full interview here:

While I don't use Deel in my businesses, I recognise how valuable a tool like Deel can be for organisations looking to scale globally. Deel's all-in-one Global People Platform simplifies some of the biggest challenges of remote work - from payroll and compliance to IT management. If tools like Deel had been available earlier in my journey, they would've saved me countless headaches as I figured things out the hard way.
If you're thinking about building a remote-first team or hiring talent from across the globe, I highly recommend checking out Deel's International Hiring Guide. It's full of actionable tips and insights for creating a global workforce with ease.
Remote work isn't just a trend - it's the future. And with the right mindset and tools, you can embrace it, too.
