I‘m nervous.

It‘s not something I usually feel - I‘ve always told myself I don‘t get stage fright, that I‘m confident, that I‘m fearless. But the truth is, I was, or maybe still am.

The first time I spoke on stage, I was panicking. The stress came right before going on, but as soon as I stepped up there, that fear faded away.

I used to be a really shy kid. I shared this in my book, The Lazy Person‘s Guide to Success. Back then, I couldn‘t even walk to the store alone - my mum was my voice. It took me more than a decade to train myself out of that fear. Eventually, I became the person I am today - someone who doesn‘t shy away from speaking up.

So, it‘s almost funny to admit that I‘m feeling those nerves again as I prepare for the first-ever Speakers Society Masterclass on May 27, 2025 at 7pm.

Some people think I built this programme out of spite, but the truth is more complicated. Over a year ago, I joined another programme - one that I thought would fuel my journey. And in some ways, it did. But it also turned into a nightmare. I was targeted, slandered, blamed, and eventually escorted out. My founding members were called one by one, questioned, and even threatened - for the lack of a better word - to shut down what we were building.

At first, I was anxious - constantly wondering if I‘d made the wrong choice. But after some advice and reflection, I realised something: The drama meant I was doing something right.

I took those lessons - the good and the bad - and turned them into fuel. That‘s how the Speakers Society Accelerator was born.

It took me a year to prove the model - test it, refine it, and see it work. And I‘m not doing it alone. My organising committee and founding members have been with me every step of the way.

Ben, especially, has shown what‘s possible. He used to be a preschool teacher. I brought him on to help me with content creation - a stable income while he tested this model himself. In just three months, he‘s landed gigs speaking at events, hosting workshops, doing live streaming, and even collaborating with brands.

We‘re heading to Penang together soon - his first overseas speaking gig.
